MAP Testing Info

Dear Parent(s)/Guardian(s):

The Missouri Assessment Program (MAP) Grade Level Assessments evaluate students’ progress toward the Missouri Learning Standards. The Missouri Learning Standards define the knowledge and skills students need in each grade level and course for success in college, other post-secondary training and careers. Students in grades 3-8 take assessments in English Language Arts and Mathematics. Students in grades 5 and 8 also take Science assessments. All Virtual Learning Program (VLP) students must also take the MAP test in person. Parents will be contacted about dates and times. The test is made up of multiple sessions, depending on the grade level. On the test, students will experience a variety of test questions such as multiple choice, constructed response or short text items, or performance/writing tasks. The HMC-1 MAP testing window is April 21st - May 23rd.. Each individual school will communicate to you the specific days that your student will be taking the assessment. Why is the MAP important?

● It is a way to find out if students are learning what they need to learn. The test will show what your student knows and is able to do according to the expectations for his or her grade level.

● MAP test results are used as one measure in determining a school district’s accreditation score.

● The MAP tests provide important information that contributes to decisions concerning individual students, groups of students, and educational programs. What can you do as a parent to support MAP testing?

● Please ensure your student is in attendance on testing days!

● Refrain from scheduling appointments on testing days.

● Ensure your student gets plenty of rest and a healthy breakfast before testing.

● Encourage your student to try his/her best on the test.

Schools will provide incentives and rewards for attendance and effort. Individual student score reports will be available to families next Fall, upon release from DESE. We are excited for Hickman Mills students to show what they know on this year’s state assessment and we appreciate your continued support. If you have any questions about testing, please contact your child’s school.
